20+ Summer Vacation Flops for Broke Folks Who Can’t Afford Time Off

We are in the thick of summer, which means we are also in the thick of seeing everyone's vacation pictures on social media. You scroll said pictures and you wonder: how did they afford all this? Do they not have minimal vacation days? Do they make that much more money than I do? Are their parents still supporting them?!

These are all questions that regularly cross my mind when I'm like at basic photos of my friends and acquaintances who have been "summering" in Ibiza and Paris and the Bahamas, etc. Meanwhile, I'm still trying to fathom the concept of using "summering" as a verb. I'm trying to scrape enough pennies to go to the movies this weekend. The thought of a true vacation is so beyond many of our experiences at this point. And yet, we all want one and we certainly all need one.

But in the meantime, while we dream of that fantasy trip to Europe, instead we will make the most of our Ramen noodle dinner and our janky laundromat and our even jankier apartment. Just remember that the people posing on Instagram with their perfect-looking beach backgrounds are probably going to have to save a ton of money when they return. So I guess it's not that we can't just afford it; it's that we're responsible adults. Let's go with that for now anyway.
