People are expected to put up with too much these days in the workplace. Sure, we understand that we have to complete our short and long-term duties. We understand that we have to meet the expectations that have been laid out before us. We even understand that every once in a while we have to show up on time. However, if my manager came up to me and told me that because of sudden outside interest I would have to re-apply for my own position, I would stand my ground on that one.
This Redditor recently had to deal with this unfortunate experience, and when their boss confronted them about having to re-apply, OP did what many of us would hope to have the confidence to do: walk away. Sometimes, the level of disrespect and disregard for the employee is just so ridiculous that there's no way you can come back from it. For instance, if OP decided to re-apply for the job and if they did manage to actually get to keep their job at the end of the hiring process, they would have to carry the knowledge with them that their boss was hoping to replace them. Or at the very least, he was open to the possibility, and that complete lack of loyalty and trust is irreparable.
We need to remember that loyalty goes both ways. Employers should be just as loyal to their employees as the reverse, and if they are not, they certainly should not expect any loyalty in return.
