'They unleashed their inner Florida man': A Wholesome Collection of Californians Who Actually Had a Blast During Hurricane Hilary

Hurricane Hilary is the first tropical storm that's made it up the western coast of the United States with the threat of becoming an actual, real life hurricane. Southern Californians are obviously accustomed to a certain, dry summer lifestyle where the acrid desert air meets the beach, but the last few summers have looked a little different in ‘The Golden State’. 

So last week when SoCal folks caught wind of a Category 4 hurricane absolutely ripping up the coast, everyone had some worries. Extreme worriers cleared out their local Costco's, reasonable people bought some water bottles, and the unhinged Californians unleashed their inner 'Florida man'.

Most notably a group of young people in Pacific Beach in San Diego found the steepest slope their could find in a park overlooking the city and they set up the longest, sudsiest adult slip-n-slide known to man. With tarps stretched nearly 100ft down a sloping knoll, partiers got sloshed when the torrential rain came in and made their childhood dreams come true. 

Other people decided to use the hurricane warnings as their sign to go to Disneyland. Obviously, it would prove to be the most vacant amusement park day they've ever seen, making it actually the happiest place on Earth.

Hilary puttered out and turned into a tropical storm, which is still a powerful novelty in southern California and turned locals into hooligans. Tons of people found inflatables and rode the flood waters down their soaking streets.

Although some places were inundated with water, it seems like most people simply had an excuse to enjoy a rainy day for once. As it turns out, when SoCal residents are faced with double the annual rainfall in the span of 10 hours, the only thing to do was to turn lemons into lemonade. 

These kids have a core memory unlocked.

And of course the surfers took the opportunity to enjoy some rainwater swell, catching some tasty barrels in the forbidden sea.

Dads were certainly dadding too, making note on the humidity and taking showers in the gutter water.

All in all, Hurricane Hilary was a nice little experiment for the Californians. Since humid, rainy summers are what await us in the future, at least we're being good natured about it. Although, there's no way the water quality was any good for any of these trail blazers, so we just hope they don't suffer from a sinus infection this week from all the tomfoolery. Until the next one, we'll all ride these fond memories of a Category 4 turning into a "Category Fun".
