Font - Posted by u/Whidog 12 hours ago Just quit my new "job" after 3 days. I am new to this subreddit but wanted to share this in hopes of hearing some words of wisdom regarding this situation. Let's just say, holy sh it am I dumb for putting myself through this.

Font - For reference, I just graduated college and went right into a job with decent pay, allowed occasional work from home, etc. About a week ago, one of my old classmates called me saying this company just had someone leave unexpectedly, and they needed the position filled ASAP. It sounded like a good gig and was told it was a great

Font - "networking" opportunity, so I dropped everything, packed up, and drove 9 hours to the city where the company is located. My friend was so excited that I was coming, saying she had been crying every single day from the stress of the person leaving and that having me there would make everything better.

Font - Pretty much the second I arrived, I realized I had signed up for a sh tshow. Just a few things that caught my attention over the past 3.5 days include: • When I agreed to make the drive, the boss said he would call me to talk more about the

Font - position, but he never did. All communication was done through my friend as a middle- man. The boss wanted me to begin working the minute I arrived in town, which was at around 7:00pm. My friend talked him out of making me work the night shift, but I was still called in for 3 hours for "training."

Font - The next day, which you might call my first full day, was 13 hours long. I was not given one break in those 13 hours. The only exception was at around 3pm, when I got permission to leave for 30 minutes to eat lunch because I felt like I was going to pass out from standing all day and not eating.

Font - I was promised "free housing" for this job since I was out of state. This "free housing" turned out to be a 12x12 room in an old house that I had to share with my friend (who is of the opposite sex).

Font - Today (Monday) is generally the designated "day off" for most employees. I use that term loosely because my friend was tasked with running errands for our boss the entire day. At one point, my friend texted me demanding that I come in to work. Confused, I asked why I

Font - would have to come in on our day off. She just said that our boss said to call me in, and that I had just arrived 3 days ago so I didn't deserve a day off. Without giving away the nature of the job, basically a certain task normally divided amongst 2-3 people was put on me to do alone. On my third full day.

Font - I never was given a contract, tax forms, or any other forms of that nature. The boss said he would send them to me before I came up, but said he was super busy and that he would get to it eventually. My friend told me what the weekly stipend would be, but I never was given any

Font - documentation indicating that they intended to actually pay me. (I was planning to email the boss about it today, before I decided to just leave. I'm not expecting to see any pay for the work I did do.)

Font - The final straw for me was being demanded to come into work, on the designated "day off," with no notice, to work by myself because I was the only one who hadn't "earned" a day off. I stood there for about 30 minutes, realized what I was doing, and walked

Font - out. I snuck back to the aforementioned "free housing," packed up everything, and drove 9 hours home without telling anyone including my friend.

Font - Part of me feels disgusted with myself for leaving my new coworkers high and dry, but another part of me is just so enraged and disoriented by the whole situation that I don't know if I care. Please tell me, am I in the wrong for running for the hills??

Font - EDIT: I realize my post left out a lot of details, so a couple of clarifications: • I work in the arts and entertainment industry. • I did not have to fully leave my old job. It is part-time and much of the work I do can be done remotely. I was planning on working both jobs at the same time.

Font - This new job was only a 3-month gig. It was never meant to be a permanent job. Even if it was rough, I originally planned on sticking it out because it wasn't going to be that long until I was home anyway.

Font - To everyone calling me an idiot and saying I did this to myself, I don't disagree with you. I was naive and easily manipulated, but I definitely learned my lesson. No job is worth this amount of stress. I'm just glad I got out when I did.

Font - themcp 10 hr. ago idle If they don't pay you, complain to department of labor. If they don't pay the taxes and social security, report them to the tax office and the IRS and social security. Make sure they don't treat anyone else in the same manner. 639 Reply Share

Font - cupidsgirl18 12 hr. ago Listen to your intuition. Misery loves company. It sounds like you friends name is misery and you were going to be company. In 3 days it sounds like the company showed a complete disregard for work life balance. You saved yourself a lot of unnecessary stress. You went to school to find a professional job not work at a circus. 538 Reply Share

Font - Like, not even a single paper printout/anything that could he traced to the boss. If Boss asked everything verbally to the "friend" with no Texts. Something is defo wrong.

Font - Sure, some smaller businesses might work this way for friend referrals. But by the 2nd-3rd day there's paperwork from the boss/manager themselves. Reply Share Vote

Font - Whidog OP. 44 min. ago I don't know how or why I let that slide in the first place lol. What's crazy is that this isn't even a small or underground business. This is like, a very established company. Vote Reply Share
