Let's start this off with saying, if you get told during a job interview that you are in "no position to negotiate" you should immediately see that as a red flag. The interview is just as much for the employer as it is for the potential employee. This is the exact time you are most definitely supposed to negotiate your salary. And if they withdraw their application because you enquires about the pay, then what else would they have dropped you on for? You make one tiny mistake or ask for water during a hot day and they fire you like you were nothing? That's exactly what a company is saying when they tell you during the interview that you cannot talk salary. That feels so obvious to us, are we taking crazy pills?!
On Reddit, a man left a short rant how this happened to him, but he was basically about to start the job. He had already filled out the paperwork, he even got fitted for the uniform, but when he asked if he could get $1 more an hour to match the basic market rate, the red flag became glaringly clear. He came in to drop of some more paperwork and he got stopped by HR. They told him that they were withdrawing the job offer because he was in "no position to negotiate." The manager he was supposed to start working with was there and couldn't even look him in the eye when he was told this. Goes to show that even the manager knew that what was happening was no right. It's almost like, maybe he dodge a bullet with that horrible job? We think so!
