Font - Got my job offer pulled for negotiating Got offered an entry level role at a medium sized concrete company, on the contracting team. Had to travel three hours to where I'd be relocating too, to complete medical, drug test, paperwork, etc. Payrate was a dollar less than I wanted, and below market rates, so asked the boss if there was any wiggle room.

Font - He said he'd have 'talk' about it. Fast forward three days, after uniform sizing and everything, I drop in with some paperwork and had HR inform me that my job offer has been withdrawn and that I wasn't in a 'position' to negotiate. Also that they now thought I'd suck at the job, and would probably walk as soon as I found one with better pay. Manager wouldn't even look at me.

Font - Accomplished_Emu_658 6 hr. ago Negotiating is normal. Any good job that didn't want to pay more would tell you no they cannot, not pull the offer. And walk as soon as you got one with better pay? Of course thats why you are there, for the pay nothing else.

Font - pianoplayah 3 hr. ago . so true! Like yeah, that's why companies offer "competitive" pay. to compete with other companies for good employees. Duh. So if you don't want to compete...that's your choice I guess. The response should have been, "and you'd fire me as soon as you find someone who will do my job for less. Which is basically what you're doing now."

Font - Accomplished_Emu_658. 3 hr. ago Some companies only want cheap and won't pay for quality. Those are places you don't want to work.

Font - loltheinternetz · 4 hr. ago This definitely shows they don't want to hire people who are motivated to look out for their own interests. They just want people who will take what's given to them and keep their heads down. This tracks.

Rectangle - PM_ME_YOUR_ROTES 2 hr. ago As is tradition. They want the ones that they can easily commit wage theft against.

Font - EsPotD 2 hr. ago When I was promoted into a new role at work they made an offer and I told them I was expecting 10k more than their first offer. They offered 5 more and I told them I was really expecting 10 more. They took it away and came back the next week and offered the 10.

Font - Negotiating is normal. They can easily say no, we can't pay more, do you want the job still? And that's that. I've never seen a company pull the offer because you asked for more. That's craziness.

Font - NichBetter 5 hr. ago Absolutely. A job came up that looked good yesterday but I noticed they had two stars on Indeed so I looked at the reviews and holy fk they sound like a bin fire.

Font - batteriesnotrequired 4 hr. ago lazy and proud I'd send them an invoice for travel and time for everything leading up to the offer being withdrawn. Not that they will pay it. I'm just petty

Font - Psychobrad844 hr. ago Should've hugged HR and tell them how grateful you are for saving you.

Font - snurfy_mcgee. 4 hr. ago Yep. I interviewed a place where they had an 'open vacation ' policy...it's a new concept that corporations are using which sounds good at first, they say ',oh there's no set vacation bank you just take what you need'...why would they do this? Because they've done studies and employees will take less vacation under policies like this because they don't want to appear to be abusing the system.

Font - Especially if the management team pushes work down your throat, you won't just take the time you need because you'll always feel behind and you'll feel guilty about the impact on the rest of your team etc
  • 19
Font - Anyway long story short I was coming from a position that had a great guaranteed vacation policy so that wasn't going to fly for me. I told them that in the nicest possible way and the actual CEO replied to the email with an indignant response and a 'were a family here' vibe. I stood firm in my reply and they withdrew the offer, told em to get fukd

Font - Atwood4124 hr. ago I Worked in a place like this. Every day I took I had to justify to the owner. Where I was going, what I was doing. Each time INCLUDING MY WEDDING a I was guilt tripped. It's a freaking trap.

Font - Willykinz 4 hr. ago "...and would probably walk as soon soon as I found one with better pay." Yeah. Thats how that works. If they're insecure about having people leave for more money, they should pay more money.
  • 22
Font - SOMAJESTIC · 6 hr. ago This is why I prefer to talk about the money asap. It's crazy how they are willing to turn down someone they want to save 10-20$ a day. And forget about growth opportunities.

Font - StercusAccidit85 - 5 hr. ago Always negotiate. The interview process is for the company, but also for the applicant. Know. Your. Worth. The fact that they were willing to let you go for $1 means they're a barrel full of dicks. I know it's disappointing in the moment, but you're truly better off.
