Independence is an important skill; we wouldn't get a lot done if we didn't appreciate that. However, no man is an island. We all need backup sometimes, and if we're lucky, we get that in the form of our parents.
When most of us think of the responsibilities of moms and dads, we put a lot of focus on how they raised us. What can be more controversial is that we still need them when that part of our lives is done.
This has been the subject of discussion in a recent Twitter thread, where people concluded that the parent role doesn't go away just because your kids are adults. They're (probably) not changing your diapers any more, but that doesn't mean you don't need them.
No matter how successful you become at this adulthood business, you still have to have a support system. It makes sense that some of it comes from the first relationships you ever had.
