It doesn't matter how your employer feels about it. Getting sick is literally part of what it means to be human. It's part of life and it's completely out of our control. There is a reason why employees are given a number of mandated sick days, and it doesn't matter if your boss is the King of the World; you are entitled to taking those sick days whenever you need to take them.
This boss shamed her employee for not giving enough advanced notice when they took their sick day. The employee shared their side of the story via this Reddit thread. One would hope this boss would think twice before sending that message, given the absolute absurdity of the concept. As if someone could request 3 weeks in advance that they will be sick that Thursday. Who does this person think she is? Has she never gotten sick before? Or is it different when it's her?
The worst part of the story is that the boss tried to shame the employee even further by claiming that their coworkers were upset as a result of their absence. Once the employee returned to work the next day and double-checked with their coworkers to confirm whether or not that was true, of course, they learned that it wasn't. The coworkers may have been overworked, but they understood that this was out of the employee's control because, like all other humans, they had been there before. Clearly, this boss is not human or extremely forgetful since she doesn't remember what it's like to get sick.
