Good students feel guilty about being late to class. When we're young, the 'people pleaser' and goody-two-shoes in all of us gets fueled by teacher approval and getting gold stars, but deep down, there's always a spicy rebel just waiting to be unleashed. Even at an educational summer camp for the brainiac kids, there are a few good apples that are ready to rock n' roll in a second if given the chance. In this case, one goodie-good summer camp student found her voice and stood up for herself against an unjust teacher, lighting a rebellious fire that could never be put out.
Her story starts during her free recess at a summer camp for all the smartest kids at school. OP was reading her book and enjoying an epic chocolate muffin when she realized it was time to shuffle off to class. After fighting the herd of kiddos rushing to their respective classes, OP found herself plopping into her desk chair maybe 10 seconds after the minute hand passed the 12 on the clock– but to her teacher, 10 seconds was 10 seconds too late. Although students were supposed to have a 15 minute grace period for each new class, the teacher completely skipped OP on roll call, marked her tardy, and attempted to flex her teacher power.
But that's exactly the kind of unjust authoritarian behavior that can set a kid's rebellious side in motion.
