It's not always fair when a dog gets labeled "aggressive." Many of these rescue dogs are found in traumatic situations and everything is happening so fast around them and they're terrified. So, of course they're going to act "aggressive." Even humans get aggressive when they're scared. In fact, I'd say that's the norm. Fortunately, humans have an easier way of communicating with each other, so it's easier to look back and say, "sorry I was so mean or defensive, I was just scared." Dogs, unfortunately, can't speak up for themselves when they are labeled "aggressive."
Luckily, there are humans out there that still speak up for the dogs, even the ones labeled "aggressive." Watching a dog go from fearful and distrusting to happy and loving is one of the most beautiful things to witness. As someone who has fostered 5 dogs, several of which were labeled "aggressive," I can tell you from firsthand experience, it will make you feel like your life was worth it. Even if you just save one dog, it's a wonderful thing.
This dog foster mom recently shared a video showing one of her new fosters going from "aggressive" to good boy. I put "aggressive" in quotations because it's not really a dog trying to be mean and bite for no reason, it's truly 100% fear and anxiety based. She shows the start of the video where the dog instantly starts to growl when she gets the tiniest bit close. She had to wheel the kennel outside covered in a blanket and open it with a crowbar just to get him out to use the bathroom.
However, after he started to get comfortable and realize he was safe, the most wholesome thing happened. He approached her for pets. Once he got pets, he wanted more and plopped his big 'ole cute head in her lap. Then, when he finally went inside the house with her, she sat on the couch and he hopped up right onto her lap and started be the cutest most playful loving boy.
She says he's ready to be a good boy and is looking for his furever family.
