As if teachers don't have enough on their plates, they sometimes get students who think they don't need to learn anymore, because they already know all there is to know.
When you're a teenager, you think you know everything there is to know. You want to be treated like an adult already! You've been in school for over a decade, and you think that now that you've passed a calc class or two, you may as well take a break from learning.
When I was a senior in high school, a teacher told me that by junior year, we had already learned everything useful we needed to know. She explained that in senior year, we were just continuing our learning to keep our young brains growing. Although that was an oddly demotivating thing for a teacher to say, I get what she means. Teachers are so passionate about the subjects they teach, and many of them care deeply about their students' success. If our teachers can keep the kids wanting to learn new things, and keep them asking smart questions, they'll try their best.
In a question to r/AskReddit, numerous teaching professionals shared stories about the students they encountered who had the most pretentious attitudes. Some have entitled parents who think their kid is 100 times smarter than average, and therefore above the rules. Other kids just don't think their teachers know much, and are thrilled to tell them that right to their faces (teens are known for that specific type of brutal honesty).
