There was a big shift in the housing market a few years ago, and this couple was right there to witness it happening in their own neighborhood.

This couple did everything right while buying a home: they purchased a plot of land, built a home on it, and made sure there was no HOA to control them. But then a certain illness made sure to ruin the early 2020s for all of us, and it had people moving around like crazy. Suddenly, the couple found themselves surrounded by new neighbors. And, as happened with numerous neighborhoods, development took off, inviting wealthy folks to live in cheaply built new properties. Now, the existing residents are left to deal with confused newcomers who are gentrifying the area and changing it in ways the couple didn't expect.

Still, all of this wouldn't have been an issue for the couple, until a newly-formed HOA showed up to make their lives as annoying as possible.
