Font - My old roommates want me to "deep clean to their high example " S OC Background here is me and my two roommates are all moving out. I'm moving a few blocks down, by the end of the month. They moved out of state from Alaska, so anything they wanted needed to be in a suitcase for the plane or in the containers uhaul will ship out. They took 2 weeks off work to deal with the move, and I'm still working.

Font - The husband and I made an agreement that they would clean their areas, and I would clean mine. 1 bedroom, the extra room for storage, their bathroom, and the living room which was all their stuff, and then the kitchen since I thought they took all the cookware. Since the only things outside my bathroom and room was a single storage box of shelf stable food, and some food in the kitchen, that is all I was supposed to clean, but it was too be at the level they did the rest.

Font - I'm posting here, so obviously they did a Ojob. There is a pile of trash in every room they "cleaned". The fridge has their moldy food. All the trash cans are full. Food wrappers and half empty bottles of water and juice on every surface. Stray cat litter and food in every room of theirs. Their room and bathroom, which I was never supposed to enter, had stuff all over. The only good thing is they left the freezer and some of the pantry full, but mostly with stuff that's long expired.

Font - I'm not petty enough to leave this disaster to the landlord because it's not his fault. But the carpet cleaning, deep cleaning of the bathroom, beyond normal cleaning, sweeping up the cat's areas, etc? Why the would I bother.

Font - Added benefit, the security deposit is entirely in their name, and because I paid my portion of the rent to them and not the landlord, I can't even be charged for the cleaning!

Font - Tldr: roommates expect me to deep clean the apartment they already left from, to their example. Then leave a mess. So I'll skip the deep clean since I can't get the security deposit anyway. Edit: I wasn't totally clear, but the roommates are a married couple. Thanks everyone! Didn't really expect this to blow up!

Font - Cartepostalelondon 6 hr. ago I'm a landlord and I'd say don't bother. It's your room mates' responsibility and it's in their name. Take photos and videos of every room. If you have to meet them, show them the areas you were responsible for.
  • 11
Font - If not, email the landlord and your room mates and attach the photos and videos. If you have an email exchange with your room mates outlining what you were responsible for, send that too. Don't admit responsibility for anything else, either verbally or in writing and don't give a forwarding address.

Font - DarthKiwiChris. 6 hr. ago Send them photos and ask them whether they are returning to clean this, hiring a cleaner or forfeiting their deposit. Alternatively, if they send you x money now, you will get it to x condition. However, note that you are under no obligation to any more than agreed. So won't be.

Font - marvinsands 7 hr. ago No need to go to a lot of trouble, especially if the landlord has a fat security deposit they can use to clean it, and you're not expecting any security deposit for yourself.

Font - A landlord expects all items to be removed, and the place "broom clean". So run a vacuum to pick up the spilled kitty litter and dust bunnies, maybe mop the kitchen floor if it "looks" dirty, wipe out the fridge, run a brush through the toilet, and walk out.

Font - Food pantries and homeless shelters might welcome the contents from the freezer, even if old. Call them first, of course. Our local homeless shelter runs a "food kitchen" that makes hot meals for lunch for homeless and indigent daily. They plan their meals based on what they have available. Every once in a while I clean out my deepfreezer and bring them stuff. They've never turned down anything I've offered. They also take canned and boxed goods; note that those dates are usually "best by

Font - _$+4) ShortStoryAttempted OP 6 hr. ago The expired "stable" food is over 6 months past. The frozen stuff I'll eat, and besides the 5 things I have in the fridge, it's all going on the trash. All the food is so far gone I don't trust even giving it away
