'My father has to have "Peanut Butter Salad" every Thanksgiving': 20 Turkey-day dishes that will go untouched for the the whole day

Each family has at least one cherished memory of the time someone botched Thanksgiving dinner really badly. You know the kind of story: an aunt promises to bake the turkey, and roasts it for 6 hours… in a cold oven. Or maybe you had a dad who was so proud of his fresh apple pie, only to immediately drop it on the floor, where the dog then ate it. These Thanksgiving memories are often infuriating in the moment, and then become hilarious family memories as soon as the fam eaten their proper holiday meal. 

With that in mind, we have found some Thanksgiving dinners and dishes that just did not go as planned. I'm a huge fan of the bright purple turkey. You only make the mistake of cooking your poultry with red wine instead of white wine once. No one really wants to chow down on purple turkey, and in addition, how will you know if it's fully cooked? Make sure you have a meat thermometer and a family with a strong stomach. 

Up next, this boss told his employee that he'd better be on call during his vacation, unless the employee went somewhere totally remote… so the employee was like, "challenge accepted."

    Have any of you 80's babies tried the Explosion Surprise Turkey?

    I was reading a cookbook from the 80s and stumbled across this gem. Do mix well. Add oysters and qua; gently fold oysters in. Sprinkle lightly with pepper. Bake at 400° until top is browned and bubbly. (Don't remove liquid which may come to top.) Bake about 20 minutes. Betty Floyd Parker, Montgomery Council 4 c. crushed dry bread 1/2 c. sage 1/4 c. onions 1/2 c. celery NEW TURKEY BACON 4 slices bacon, Mix well; stuff turkey. popcorn blows the off the turkey. cooked and quartered DRESSING 1/2 c.

    My siblings and I call this Barf Salad. My dad (74M) insists we have it at Thanksgiving because "people will be looking for it." LEMON-LIME COTTAGE CHEESE SALAD 1 pkg Lemon Jello 1 pkg Lime Jello 2 cups hot water ½/2 cup Miracle Whip 2 cups cottage Cheese 1 cup condensed milk #2 can Pineapple Nuts Celery Combine two jellos with water. Let set partially then add rest of ingredients. Pour into 9 by 13 or similar size dish and refrigerate over night.

    It looks like the top layer contains carrots with string beans laid across it. Then there's a layer of peas, then a layer of spinach or collard greens (maybe??) and finally, the bottom layer could be either cabbage or turkey. A frightful mystery, to be sure!
