Posted by u/hobberbobber 8 hours ago Quit my job, bad mistake to give 2 weeks notice. My "lead" would not stop with the micro- management, and after 5 meetings with my director and vice president telling them they need to get her off my nothing changed. I got fed up last week

and put my notice in. Last day will be December 8th. They asked what they could do to make me stay. When I said to get the "lead" off my, they said they have tried, she just doesn't listen. They have tried, I have been in the meetings when they have told her to stop. She just....didn't!! And of course, no punishment. Nothing changed.

And this folks is why "people don't want to work". You have this women who is in her late 50s, micro-managing everyone in her department, who refuses to change, but because she has been here 20 years and is "in" with the upper management, there is nothing they can do. . This women also makes constant mistakes. Like, not a day goes by where she doesn't screw something up, that she then makes me fix. I am totally checked out right now.

Now they want me to train 3 people into various tasks of mine. I am usually really thoughtful and helpful when this kind of thing happens, but I have not been trained correctly. I cannot train someone on something that I was still learning at the time of my notice.

What would you guys do here? I have 80 hours of PTO saved up, I could just take it, but I would be leaving them in the lurch for the end of this month, and I don't know if I would feel okay about that. WWYD?

**Edit: all you brave wonderful redditors have made up my mind. I am going to remove my personal items to my car, send an email to my boss, and go home! Life is too short for jobs, and managers. Thank you everyone for finding me a backbone that I have been missing for 43 years. You people are amazing!

**Edit 2: I did it!! I sent an email and brought all my personal stuff to my car and left my keys on the desk. My boss was out sick today, but that's how I would have done it anyway, I'm not big on confrontation. bad bosses, they ruin everything!! Thank you antiwork peeps, for the support and validation.

Karl2241 8 hr. ago Take the 80 hours of PTO and use it to find a better job. 974 Reply Share dsdvbguutres. 7 hr. ago Find a better job while on the job, use PTO to try the new job for 2 weeks to make sure it's really better. Collect paycheck for 2 weeks of PTO that you have already earned AND collect paycheck for 2 weeks of work at new job.

Miyuki22 57 min. ago Always, ALWAYS use time off work to test drive a new job for 2 weeks. More if possible. Do whatever is necessary to take off whatever time you need to do this. Paid or unpaid. Once you have confirmed the new job isn't a shitshow, then quit the first job with no notice citing intolerable working conditions.

Party-Objective9466. 6 hr. ago Exactly. They want her there. And good people will leave. 25 Reply Share baconraygun 4 hr. ago This is something I still struggle to understand. I've been in the same situation as OP, working with someone who refuses to change, and is settled in their position. They chase people off, everyone knows they make people quit, and I, when I was in that sitch, I quit too. But management insists on keeping that person, why? Is it really worth losing quality workers constan

hobberbobber OP. 4 hr. ago Right? And I was lied to during my interview. I asked what the turnover was like in this department, and the lead said, well I've been here 20 years. Come to find out, my position had been filled 4 times in 6 years. Didn't find that out until about 9 months ago. But yeah, SHE has been there 20 years, running everyone out.

MrBadBadly 4 hr. ago Yeah, if that's what you asked, you left them open to giving that as an answer. You should specifically ask about that position and ask how many people have been in that position in the past few years or ask how long the last person was in the position before leaving and why did they leave. Reply Share 10 hobberbobber OP 4 hr. ago Rookie mistake on my part. I did not ask those specifically, but going forward, yeah, they will be asked before I accept anything.

Ouisch 3 hr. ago I've worked with a few similar folks who, no matter how toxic and/or inefficient they were, they never got fired, just transferred from one department to another (but with an upgrade in salary and some fancy job title). I always figured that those folks had incriminating Polaroid photos of an executive or something as leverage.

MrBadBadly 4 hr. ago They didn't do anything because they're over 50 and have probably threatened age discrimination to them before. It happens all of the time.

sanslenom 7 hr. ago Take the 80 hours. They're trying to punish you for leaving and others by making them do more than the work of one person. Reply Share 23 LaughableIKR. 7 hr. ago If it was me? I would take my PTO. Come back and completely and utterly ignore the lead. Make it a point to say "Sorry... I don't feel I need to listen to you because you are constantly on my back and you've been told by X, and Y to get off my back."

She can't fire you without someone else's permission. What are they going to do? Fire you for being harassed constantly? It's a lawsuit waiting to happen if you have the paperwork to back it up. If you really want to get her. List off all the things you had to fix from her work and point it out in a semi-loud way all while questioning her ability to do her job while making these kinds of childish mistakes. She will go absolutely ballistic.

Sunshine_Tampa 5 hr. ago I like this, unless a good reference is needed. 3 Reply Share hobberbobber OP. 4 hr. ago I have tons of references from my last job I was at for 13 years. They would probably love to have me back there actually, I left in really good terms, but the busy season at that job was during the spring and summer, and I live in North Dakota. So I missed the only nice weather we have every year, and I couldn't do it anymore. Haha

apHedmark 7 hr. ago Take that PTO. They did not have your back, so they reap what they sow. While on PTO gently remind yourself that now she is the one doing the training of the other three people. Have a good laugh and move on.
