If there's one thing you learn when you spend a large portion of your life looking at memes, it's that you will never truly know what to expect. Seasoned meme connoisseurs often have quite varied tastes. The new trend that is just around the corner might make perfect sense once it's been established (if you know your internet history, that is), but the reason it gets big is because it's so out of the blue. Memes are trackable, but not necessarily predictable.
This can make them rather messy. Even when you make an effort to document them, there will be some that escape the net. As a result, it's often easier to just let them wash over you in a transient and forgettable experience that you're willing to repeat over and over. That was what they have always been meant for, or at least that is how it seems to most people.
