'Sheila storms off to the back': Small business retail employee gets back at entitled supervisor

This employee got stuck working with a supervisor they were particularly not fond of. That happens in life. You can't always work with your work bestie. 

It makes a huge difference when you have fun coworkers. You both have to be there for an entire six- or eight-hour shift, so you may as well try to make it enjoyable. Some coworkers have a great sense of humor. Others you'll get to know on a deep level and know all of their interesting lore. Having deep conversations while folding shirts together barely feels like work! 

On the other hand are the workers you don't necessarily vibe with. Maybe you have opposite personality types, or maybe you have the type of manager who refuses to ever crack a smile. You just know that shift is going to drag on and on.

  • This person thought they were going to have to do an inventory shift. That's actually an ideal place to be for some people. You can listen to music or a podcast while doing that, since it's not a customer-facing activity. That's a pretty sweet way to spend a couple of hours at work.

    you can be in the stock room which was usually done early morning, or late at night and its requires a bit of manual work - opening boxes, breaking them down, taking out trash, organizing the clothes that are in the back room, etc. which I never minded doing, but you can get pretty dirty doing it.

    I buy a cheap tshirt that was on sale for maybe $3 or so, and head to the back. Then malicious compliance kicks in. I look for the employee handbook, and read through the part of what supervisors can/can't do, and there is a section in there that says

    So i call the phone at the registers and she answers, and i tell her, i was reading through the employee handbook and found this section, and i read the entire paragraph saying that active managers cant be at the register. She doesnt say anything and simply hangs up. I walk back
