I just interviewed for my dream job. It was the worst interview of my life.
  • 04
I have been hard on the job search for a year now. I've gotten all my certs and education... and in general am a very good interviewer. Probably do 1 interview a week. 100% of the time I don't get a job is because of things I can't control. They went with

an internal hire, needed me to relocate when I couldn't, don't have a very specific piece of experience... etc. I always receive wonderful feedback, it just wasn't exactly the right fit. No problem there - on to the next.

Last week I got a call to interview to be a project manager, my dream job, for a company that is everything I want and more.
  • 07
I've practiced for hours every day. I knew my experience inside and out, was prepared for anything. Bought a new outfit, had it fitted, I was as prepared as anyone could be.
  • 08
The moment I sat down... my brain deleted everything. I had not experienced this since I was probably 20 interviewing for some random job. Full stop... my brain was empty. I

answered every question so poorly. I can't remember the last time I had an interview where I didn't immediately know how to answer the question. Today? There was that long.. awkward pause after every question because I just could not think. I think

my only redeeming factor was they liked me as a person, but I was missing the point on almost every question. In retrospective, I knew exactly how to answer the questions. But at the time... nothing.

I'm so mad at myself. Just wanted to share. edit: Thank you all for the great responses and advice. It is very appreciated.

To the people who keep telling me "you're probably not as good as you think you are otherwise you wouldn't be interviewing so much" There's probably some truth to that, but lets just clarify that 1) i
  • 13
exaggerated how often I interview. It's hard to put an actual figure on it because they come in waves. 2) I am confident in my ability to interview on a general basis, have. done lots of mock interviewing, and take feedback well. As

mentioned, more often than not i don't get a job it is because of factors I can't control, and this is communicated to me through the hiring manager. This is a post about how i completely fumbled and wanted to share.
  • 15
edit 2: Yes, I plan on writing them a follow up/thank you/etc. Standard practice. I will be writing it to them on Monday morning because the interview was on a Friday.

-SlimJimMan- . 3 days ago This. I interviewed with 4 companies over the last couple months. The interview I felt I did the worst on, which was also my top pick, was the only one I received an offer from. You probably did better than you think.

wordsineversaid 3 days ago. edited 3 days ago Same thing happened to me. I remember telling my gf and family how devastated I was to bomb the final interview for a position I wanted so badly.
  • 18
I beat myself up over it for a week, constantly replaying my terrible interview answers in my head on loop. 10 days later I received an offer for the position.

Now when I interview people, I give zero negative weight if the person is highly nervous. If anything, a candidate being nervous conveys to me that they care about landing the position. I'd rather have that type of person 10 out of 10 times over someone with an inflated ego.

Complex_Past514. days ago Boom. Yep, right there. If they're nervous, they're humble and want the job!

"closed the sale" so he hired me anyway. You never know. Could be the one right thing you did say overshadowed the wrong things you said.

First initial HR screening, i BOMBED because the HR manager changed the job description on the spot. But I'm assuming everyone ELSE bombed too cause I got the next stage email within 6 hours
  • 26
Hilariously enough, thank god everyone else bombed. The whole team freaking loves me to death, just waiting on meeting the c-suite now.
  • 27
Which I'm sure the c-suite will love me. This feels like a god-gave-me-the-job situation cause very hilariously speaking, I know the person in c-suite (they just transitioned to this company I'm interviewing for)
