This is story from my last hotel, one of the last ones I collected before I quit. I've sat on it for so long that I forgot some minor details. But that's okay because the bigger parts of the story are that it won't even matter. SO

I was working morning shift one weekend, assigning rooms, trying to accommodate guest requests. One reservation in the system specified that they wanted a first floor room with a view. Mkay, it's a hotel downtown, so your view is going to be of the barely occupied building across the street. There

was only one room that fit the description, and housekeeping had to clean it first. I assigned it anyway, thinking it'll definitely be ready by the time the guest arrived. I was NOT thinking that the guest would arrive at 11am @

This guest, who I will call Airyn (pronounced Erin; spelled so to describe what was in her head) approached the desk to check into her super specific room. I had the honor to tell her the room was not ready yet.

"But I requested early check-in.” (When are people going to finally understand what the word REQUEST means???) I informed her that checkout was at 11, when she arrived, and that housekeeping hasn't had a chance to get in there to clean. I

told her I had other rooms available if she had to check in right then. "Are they on the same floor with a view?" I let her know she would be able to get what she requested if she waited for housekeeping to

business. And I'm a business owner!" Now........... I try not to judge. I promise. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't wonder who on earth gave her a business license. They say don't judge a book by its cover, but this cover standing in front of me was disheveled af-

stained tank top, bra strap falling down, eyelashes doing their own thing, misplaced weave. I didn't ask what her business was; I just assumed I'd naturally steer clear of it. Anywho, I convinced her to come back at 3pm to check in. This was

my last interaction with Airyn. I made sure to warn my relief (Tracie) about her, saying she might be a problem. Hours later, I was at home, pantsless and happy. I got a call from Tracie. She was asking how to get video footage from our cameras.
  • 14
Our iPad for our cameras had been locked in our GMs office (Jordan/D mb H /Unintelligent Garden Tool) for about 2 weeks, so I was confused about why Tracie was asking about it. Tracie said Jordan gave the code to her office to get it because the police needed it. WHY???
  • 15
Since Jordan couldn't be bothered to assist her employee in this situation, I put on some pants and went back to the hotel and Tracie told me what happened as I was going back through the footage. As expected, Airyn was a problem at check-in. She

checked in with her family- large family, all staying/"visiting" this one bedroom. Of course there were kids, and of course they were loud. But they went out to the pool, so they were off Tracie's nerves for a while. A couple hours into her shift, a group of 4 young boys (oldest

maybe 18, youngest maybe 9) walked in asking for water. Tracie said she didn't have any for free, and they walked out. When I saw them on the camera, they were walking back through the parking lot, but slowed down next to a bright colored sportscar-definitely stood out among the sea of white and

silver cars in the lot. It stood out even more since it was the only car with the keys still in the ignition, engine running, and the window rolled down. All that was missing was a carnival barker yelling "Step right up!" Tracie was able to see them pacing back and forth through

the window in the lobby, so she went outside to scare them off. That's when she noticed the keys. Our guests always got parking passes with their room number on it, so we could call them if there was any issue. No parking pass was present, so Tracie couldn't call anyone. She went back inside.

About 15 minutes later, the boys came back. They were peeking over the wall to see if the car was still there. It was, still running and everything. So after they circled the lot a couple more times, they hopped in the car and drove off. About 15 minutes after that, Airyn and a male relative

appeared on camera, walking around the small parking lot looking for a car that's impossible to miss. Yup, it was her car. Gone. This revelation annoyed the ps out of her. Literally. She peed on herself. The police ended up finding the car a few blocks away, totaled.

Airyn later got in touch with corporate to try to get a refund because her car was stolen. She was denied. ...I hope her business is doing well though.

JennFoogle 5 hr. ago If she was a real business owner she'd know some businesses can't always approve of customers requests like early check in. Anytime a guests asks for an early check in I always say: "Most likely by insert early check in time

rooms won't be ready by then but you can certainly call before you arrive if there's a room available." Guests usually appreciate a heads up so they know a room might not be ready.

Honestly I feel like her car getting stolen by the two boys was her karma for being a Karen.

sevendaysky 17 hr. ago I'm not a front desk agent - but if I worked at a hotel, and there was a car running with the keys in it and no parking pass to know who owned it, I would call the police.

That's even before the whole "kids hanging around and looking at the car very sketchily" bit. Your coworker failed here.
