Front desk: We have a water outage. Guest: You're making it up.

"You don't have water, but the hotel across the street does. You're lying to us about why."

Our city was hit by some pretty terrible weather (as I'm sure most of you were) this past week. All over the city there's been water outages and busted pipes. I was told that our hotel has no issues but they came to turn off the water due to busted pipes in the area.

We've had 6-7 people cancel already. As they come in, I inform them of the situation. If they choose to not stay, they get a full refund, even the third party people. So we're not attempting to take advantage of anyone. There's also been multiple guests come in trying to get a room because their homes have no water. They've been from as far away as 30 minutes into the city. The exasperation seen in them when I tell them says they've

been trying many hotels, all with the same issue. A few moments ago, I had some Spanish speaking guests that have been here for some time already come down and ask when the water will be back on. I have no updates to give.

They then confronted me and said other hotels across the street have water. I explained that we're right on a city border, we're in City A, and the hotel across the street is in City B. I even explained how there's a sign right across the street saying "Welcome to City B." The man translated this to his friends and one of them says "He's a liar." I was just dumbfounded. I asked them why would I lie?

I told them they could just Google our city's water company to see the outage map. No one pulled out their phones. I also tried to once again explain we're in different cities, so I have no idea how the pipes had to be turned off here but not over there.

They really just shook their heads and talked more in Spanish. I could understand bits and pieces but they didn't know that. I couldn't fathom why I would lie to someone about that.

I get that it's weird but I didn't design these cities or their water infrastructure. Just telling you the facts. Literally just step outside and take a gander at the huge "Welcome to City B" sign.

ChiefSlug30 12 hr. ago You don't even have to be in another city to have one property without water and another one with water. All you need is to be on a different water line. Vote Reply Share

Gloomy Deal1909 - 11 hr. ago I worked at a hotel next to a hospital. We were in the same grid as the hospital. However the property next door and across the street were not. We had guest multiple times come over during power outages saying that the hotel had to be lying about power.

I would always defend them and explain that they were on different power grids than us. People would look at me like I was stupid and that couldn't be real. Vote Reply Share

AngelaIsNotMyName · 13 hr. ago I mean, the proof would be in the fact that the hotel they're standing in has no water... that's a weird battle for them to pick lol Vote Reply Share

Aspiring-Programmer OP · 12 hr. ago Yeah their line of thinking is we were lying about why we had no water. Im not sure what reason they thought, I should've asked. Vote Reply Share

tachycardicIVu - 12 hr. ago Did you check in the back? Why don't you have pipes in the back? Employees at my favorite grocery store always check in the back for me, because I know you're hiding the good stuff there. Reply Share Vote

MarlenaEvans - 10 hr. ago Ok, I'm lying. Anyway, we still don't have water. Reply Share Vote Aspiring-Programmer OP 10 hr. ago Lmaooo. That's how I would usually respond but I got in trouble recently so I've been on my best behavior.
