Like most things in life, quitting is safer in numbers. The following quitting stories are all the more satisfying because here, we have entire teams walking out, throwing in the towel, and leaving in droves. That's what you get for trying to mess with your employees' time, schedules, workloads, and stress levels.
These stories take me back to the days of an unpaid internship which shall remain nameless. The other interns and I expected to be doing research and standard office duties. However, when we arrived, we learned that the bulk of our duties were limited to janitorial work because they no longer used a cleaning service (true story!). Unfortunately, I did not have safety in numbers as other folks did not want to quit on the spot with me. But after things did not get better following the first week, I couldn't stomach it any further and I quit at the end of that day. Thankfully, I found another internship (this time, a paid one) less than a week later.
