I am not a Roman History expert by any means, but I was fascinated with one iconic event in Ancient Roman history when I was a kid. I'm talking, of course, about the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. This interest may or may not have been spurred by a Magic Treehouse Book where Jack and Annie nearly get devoured by hot molten lava on that fateful day. Luckily, that did not happen, and they were able to make it back to modern times to witness even more historical tragedies.

Pompeii is so cool because of how much of it was preserved against all odds. If I were to die in a horrific way, I would at least want my body to be preserved in the terrified position of my demise.
