Poor Miss Uptight This was on a company conference in Asia. We were staying in a very nice 5 star hotel and we each had our own room. In all, there are about 150 people from the company staying at this hotel for the week. It was a great week.

Except for this one woman. She was pretty uptight to start with, and frowned on anything that was borderline drakenness, blue jokes, that sort of thing. I suspect she was a full blown Pentecostal Christian, looking back. Keep in mind this happened In the early 90s so things were a little bit less PC than they are nowadays in the corporate world.

Most people were complaining about her and tried to avoid her. She spent most of her time alone, shopping and eating alone during our downtime and she would disappear early from the social evenings we enjoyed each night. Not a great problem, really, but she seemed to disapprove of everything so we pretty much left her to herself.

That was until she started complaining to management about some pretty innocuous stuff. Like my friend, Frank, who was from North Queensland. He was pretty outlandish, but also quite funny and he had a really good heart.

He never punched down with his jokes and ribbing. Anyway he said something to a girl in our state team which she took in good spirit and she gave back as good as she got. Anyway, Miss Uptight went and complained to the managing director. He then gave Frank a talking to and warned him to back down, saying he didn't want to hear any more complaints. Guess who's room was next to Miss Uptight? Me.

Frank and I started pranking her. Our rooms had a locked adjoining door, so Frank got a drinking straw and lit a cigarette (those were the days) poked the straw underneath the adjoining door, and blew smoke into her room. She was still actually in the room. She ended up calling the manager and asked him to explain why there was smoke in her room. We could hear the managers saying the only way smoke could be in that room was if she was smoking.

On our second last day, there was a fancy dress party arranged for the evening. Frank and I tested out our fancy dress costumes In my room. Frank had blonde hair, but was wearing a dark wig with a black moustache and reflecto mirror sunglasses with a vest and a pair of hippie trousers and sandals.

Frank then had a brainwave. He went fully costumed next door to Miss Uptight's room and knocked on the door. When she answered, he put on a Latino accent and said: "Hey man, is this where I buy the dro, man?"

She absolutely flipped out, started screaming and slammed the door in his face. Frank whipped back into my room, and minutes later security were running up and down the corridor and going through her room. She had absolutely no idea it was us behind it. Until ...

When the fancy dress event started, Frank walked into the room and Miss Uptight spotted him straight away and just stared with her with her mouth hanging open. She didn't say anything to management (surprisingly) but a couple of weeks later when we were back at work in our home towns, we found out that she'd resigned from the organisation. I suspect we were all a little bit too rough for her taste.

Disclaimer: I was not going to mention this, but it is probably appropriate. We are Australians, as you could probably tell, but Miss Uptight was a mid-west American who had worked with our company in the US and transferred. I think she took some time adjusting to our culture. We must have seemed like Neanderthals to her at the time, the poor thing.

Savage_Succulent · 10 hr. ago Mmmm, I don't think this is in any way revenge. You basically just acted like immature teenagers because you didn't like your coworker, and you assumed she was judging you. You and your friend come off as mean and dumb, nothing you did was even funny. 365 Reply Share

Osiris231 10 hr. ago I'm thinking the same thing. They should've left her alone. I'm sure his friend could've survived toning it down for a day or two until she left to go home. 112 Reply Share

Javka42 7 hr. ago If you both end up laughing afterwards, it's a prank. If the other person is scared, hurt or humiliated, it's just bullying. 279 Reply Share
