1am phone call on overnight bus? Say goodbye to your personal space.

So I'm on a trip with a bunch of other international students which just began with an nine-hour overnight bus leaving at 11pm and arriving at 8am. The first hour, sure, people are excited, they're going to talk - but I wanted to get to sleep around midnight and I think that's reasonable. But

for two hours from midnight until 2am, this American girl behind me was having a phone call even though all the lights were off and nobody else was talking. I didn't get any sleep the whole first block of driving up until the break. After the first break, I

discovered that the seat has a reclining feature. Excellent. Now, I usually wouldn't use this even if I were trying to sleep out of respect to the person behind me and their personal space - but when you insist on making long phone calls in the early hours of the morning, depriving me of much-

needed sleep? That recliner is going all the way back, baby. I put it almost all the way back in the way that was most comfortable for me but then felt her pushing the back of my chair, so I just pulled the lever and let it drop back all the way. This did actually help

me to finally get a couple of hours sleep, which was all I managed to get the whole night. It was a simple, petty revenge - but hey, if you want people to respect your ability to sleep, try respecting theirs as well.

faghaghag 5 hr. ago many Berlin subway trains are open at the ends, so it's basically one long open tube. Very often, if you listen, there's a nasal American voice yammering away about something 2 cars away... main character syndrome...

cross-eyed_otter . 4 hr. ago i really try now to see entitled/ people as a gift, it's permission to stop thinking about their comfort. So instead of thinking about oh no what a selfish should i say something, i don't want to say something, why can't they just behave, i'm like thank you for setting the tone.

My best bus sleep was next to a guy who set the tone by taking up to much space, so i put my pillow in the middle and used him as a back support XD. After the first stop he managed to keep to his half of the seats. imagine that XD. too late, the tone has been set.

Zarjaz1999 7 hr. ago People generally don't understand that modern mobile phones have very sensitive microphones. It's totally unnecessary to speak loudly in order to be heard. I guess some folk just can't stop themselves from claiming all the space around them. Land of the free, right?

Shadow_of_the_moon11 OP 6 hr. ago She wasn't being incredibly loud, but just... don't make phone calls in the early hours of the morning when there are people around trying to sleep.

. gertrudeblythe · 8 min. ago Every time I fly domestically in the US there is always that one person on speakerphone at the gate just oblivious that everyone can hear them. If you're having a loud conversation I will look at you and listen to everything, just saying. I'm nosy and bored, and I will judge you!

norolls 2 hr. ago As an American if someone was being obnoxious like this someone or me would absolutely say something or have a staff member say something. At least just ask politely first. It's so funny to me how many people will live in inconvenience for hours rather than just saying "excuse me miss it's 1am, do you mind texting that person instead? Many of us are trying to sleep and you're causing a disturbance" but I guess you can't go on reddit like a wuss afterwards to brag about reclinin
