Cats are smart. You have to give them credit. Yes, not all cats. Some cats are dumb as heck. Some cats share one braincell. That's true too. But a lot of cats are very smart, and you, as a cat owner, know that because of all of the ways that your cats manage to outsmart you.
Cats are smart when they feel like being smart. Cats are smart when they have something to gain from being smart. That is exactly why we avoid training our cats. Because we have read one too many stories of cat training gone wrong, and we don't want to take that chance. We will try to teach our cats that biting our feet in the middle of the night is wrong, and suddenly, somehow, for no reason at all, they will be biting our feet all day every day, even while we're awake. Don't risk it - that's always been our motto. Because we knew the risks. The person in this thread… had to learn the hard way.
Oh, the confusion that this person must have felt. Suddenly getting notifications from Amazon about a purchase that they haven't made, probably thinking that their account got hacked into. Then seeing what was bought and feeling extra confused, because why would a hacker buy the cat bed that they were just looking at?
Only to realize that the culprit of the crime is the cat itself. And then… to have to sit there and wonder just how smart their cat actually is. Wonder not only how the cat did it, but how much does the cat actually understand? Was this a choice on the cat's part or a coincidence? We will never know.
