Every office has rules. You can't just claim squatters' rights in the CEO's private office and expect to stay there for more than 5 minutes. While that's common sense, some offices have much more rigid rules than others. I know people who have gotten screamed at by their bosses for printing one sheet in color on the company printer. I've heard of other offices where there are private party rooms providing 9-5 workers with shots on the job. Every office is different, but painting with broad strokes, everyone I know favors ones with chill vibes more than tyrannical ones.
One private office at a University decided to get a little tyrannical with its rules. The management decided that employees wouldn't be allowed to sit in the comfortable chairs around the office but must be delegated to the crowded breakroom during any downtime whatsoever. Sounds like a great way to boost morale!
