Gen X dude confronts his father after getting hypocritical advice about retirement: ‘He retired at 50… but [I'm 56] and should continue to work?’

We're all working to eventually retire, right? Apart from the 1%ers and people whose entire identity is entwined in their career, most of us just want to age out, cash in, head to Florida, and live out the rest of our days on the beach with a piña colada in one hand and a good book in the other. 

But apparently that's not a reasonable end goal for Gen X folks or anyone under the age of 50. 

While many younger generations have come to terms with the idea that retirement is a luxury, older generations assumed it was a given. Once the Boomers reached their 30-year tenure at the company they got hired at straight out of high school, they have a send-off party, leaving with their golden goose egg and life-long pension that will support them for the rest of their days. But recently, a guy got into a scuffle with his long-retired father over the specifics of these idyllic benefits. 

This man's father retired at 50 years old in 1999, but when this Gen X guy confronted him about retiring at 56, he was in a tizzy over it, claiming he was lazy and had 'a lot of good years left in him' to work.
