If you go to a beach, you bring sunscreen, and if you go camping, you bring a tent. So why do so many hikers choose to trek miles and miles up a mountain wearing flip-flops? That's the same type of tourist who sees a 15-mile hike noted for its difficult terrain, and decides to hike it alone, armed with only a granola bar and a portable radio.
As a tourist in a foreign land, it's easy to make mistakes. But a lot of people shared their concerns around these inconsiderate visitors littering or otherwise disrespecting the environment. One person noted that people just bury their trash in the sand. Their logic seems to be that if they can't see those sandwich wrappers they covered up, they just disappear! Locals are left to clean up the mess.
Other people had a problem with the lack of tourists. Apparently, wealthy people love to swoop in and buy up properties in beautiful vacation spots, leaving locals struggling to buy and afford housing. Plus, these rich people only show up once or twice a year, so they aren't exactly contributing to the local economy.
