The feud between STEM kids and humanities kids is long and storied. In a society where you're made to feel you're either one or the other at a very young age, the division becomes as real as cat people vs dog people. And both sides have grievances. Humanities kids are generally jealous of the economic opportunities that seem to lay in wait for STEM kids, and STEM kids resented all the essay writing they had to do. Or something. I don't know, I'm squarely on the humanities side. But it's true that the world puts you into a box and tells you what it wants from you. You're either artsy fartsy and unserious or you're a robot who doesn't read. Them's the breaks.
A recent Twitter thread exposed the financial side of this feud in a surprising way and fanned the flames of the STEM/Hum war. But no matter what side you're on, you might find something worth debating here.
