We promise that whatever you're thinking going into this thread, it will not end that way. Seriously, we were so confused reading this caption. What do you mean you messed up by letting your indoor cat back into the house?! But yes. Yes, they messed up. Good thing there's a happy ending.

I have two cats: Selene and Apollo. I adopted Selene when I found her and her three siblings and mama living in a drain near my house.

Having cats brings with it so, so many shenanigans. We swear, cats do their utmost to cause as much chaos in our lives as pawssible. And we should be thankful for that. Yes, we should. Because life would be boring otherwise. All that said, in this case, both Selene and Apollo are completely innocent.

She is a beautiful silver tabby, and she is exceptionally smart. I have had to put childproof locks on my cupboards to prevent her from opening them and eating everything in sight. She has learned how to unlock and open various doors and windows in my house. She has worked out what button to press on my laptop to turn it off if I'm not paying enough attention to her.

Apollo is from a shelter. He is orange. He is the most affectionate cat you'll ever meet, but he's dumb as rocks.

Neither cat is allowed outside, but Selene will sometimes find ways to sneak out. When that happens I'm not too worried, because she lived outside for a while and is smart enough to stay safe outside until I can encourage her back in. My main concern with her being

outside is her impact on the local wildlife population. However, when I saw Apollo sitting in my garden I panicked. Apollo has never been outside, and I don't even think I could trust him not to wander onto a road to try and make friends with a car.

I set about immediately trying to lure Apollo into the house with food and promises of chin scritches. He approached very cautiously, which made me so sad thinking he must be terrified in this unfamiliar outdoor

environment. I even had to put the food down and back away from it to get him inside. I immediately went outside and closed the door to go and look for Selene, assuming that she had opened a window and Apollo had followed her out.

And that's when I saw Apollo and Selene, inside, fast asleep on a windowsill together.

For the first time in this entire situation, I went and put my glasses on. The cat I had lured inside looks very similar to Apollo, but is not Apollo. He was very nervous, very confused, but apparently very hungry because he has scarfed down two bowls of food and a slice of cheese. I have shut him in the laundry room for now and have booked an appointment with our vet to check for a microchip.

Selene is very interested in what's happening, and has been guarding the laundry room door, presumably hoping I'll take my eyes off her long enough for her to get into the laundry room and explain to this new cat exactly who's in charge in this household.

Apollo has not noticed that anything is amiss, and has been happily rolling around in a sunbeam.

TL;DR - not wearing my glasses, I thought I saw my indoor-only cat Apollo outside, and frantically lured him in. As it turns out, both of my cats are safely inside, now along with a third, unknown cat who looks a lot like Apollo.

Update: our visitor is not chipped, not desexed, and also not a boy. She's fairly healthy as far as the vet could tell but they're doing some tests to make sure. I'm going to do my due diligence in trying to find out if she has a family, but if not she has one right here. I'm strongly considering the name Artemis, who in Greek mythology is the twin of Apollo.

ooioooii OP 24 days ago Haha honestly if he doesn't belong to anyone I'll happily keep him. If the world wants to bestow upon me another cat, who am I to fight it?

Calligraphee 24 days ago If you end up keeping him, I assume you'll name him Ra or Huitzilopochtli? Or maybe Helios?
