Golden Retriever Gives Birth To Green Puppy... Meet Forest!

Rio is a three year old golden retriever. The gorgeous girl gave birth to a littler of nine puppies, yet there was something very surprising within the lot.. One of her puppies wasn't golden at all but, green!

Louise sutherland, Rio's owner, admitted that she was rather taken aback by the green puppy and didn't know what to think.

Sutherland told The Sun "The first pup was stuck, so myself and my daughter Claire managed to free him and pull him out safely [...] It was all hands on deck but then as the puppies started to arrive, we noticed that one of the puppies had green fur. We couldn't believe it."
"When we checked it out later we found out it is very unusual and to do with the placenta. The color has faded quite a bit already and will be gone soon, I'm told."

Mrs. Sutherland, from Golspe in the Scottish Highlands, has cleverly named the puppy Forest. (Adorable!)

This rare pigmentation is called Billiverdin. It is found in the placenta of dogs. The substance can stain the puppy's coat when it mixes with the mother's amniotic fluid. This however is so rare, it's only been reported three times before in the world. The last time this happened actually took place this year in February. A Chocolate Labrador gave birth to a green puppy in Lancashire.

Rio had a total of seven boys and one girl. "This is actually her second litter of puppies and her last," Sutherland has said. Her first litter was a bit more normal with five puppies. Mrs Sutherland has found good homes for each of Rio's puppies, but intends to keep Forest.
