Old is Gold!
There are few things more heartbreaking than seeing an elderly canine shivering in the unfamiliar confines of a shelter or watching an old dog being callously dropped off at a pound because its owner no longer wants it. But, sadly, it happens every day. For many of these elderly dogs, the stop at the shelter will be the end of the line. Most potential adopters are looking for a puppy or a very young canine, not a graying senior. Thankfully, though, there are a few angels in the world — people like Steve Greig — who purposefully seek out senior dogs for adoption. Via: The Dodo
Although he has always owned at least two or three dogs, the passing of his little miniature Pinscher hit him hard. "I was just so distraught about [that death]," Greig, an accountant, told The Dodo website. "A month or two went by, and I still felt so horrible about it. I decided that the only way I would feel better was if something good happened that probably wouldn't have happened if he had not died."
So they introduced him to a 12-year-old Chihuahua named Eeyore. This adorable little guy was not just elderly. Eeyore also had bad knees and a heart murmur, which made him the perfect candidate for Greig's request.
One by one, Greig brought home other elderly canines. In the end, he adopted seven other senior pets in need of a loving family.
