The fact that so many of us feel kind of guilty when we request vacation time at work is living proof that in all honesty, we probably deserve even more of a break. There is more to life than providing shareholder value, a thought that can be difficult to prove to ourselves in the mere days we are allowed to disengage from the rat race and relax (or finish that list of chores that has continued to lengthen since the last time we had a vacation).

That's if we even get our request approved in the first place, which is no guarantee if the timing isn't right, or we're suffering the effects of working for a shifty company or a bad boss.
