I was just fired, because of the time off they gave me Hi, I (M17) started working at a factory as a part of an apprenticeship 10 months ago to the day. Today I was called into the office and was told my contract is being terminated due to my Bradford score, essentially a score of your attendance. My score was high and I didn't understand why, every day I've had off I was either ill and/or was told to go home, or I had it pre-booked off. I

argued against the termination and my boss said there was nothing he could do, even though there was, he was THE boss. It's been a few hours since I left and my other coworkers felt awful, my mother has called in telling them it's an unfair dismissal because I've not had any prior warnings about my attendance beforehand, which was apart of the letter they gave me.

I was off for 12 days total because of heat stroke, gastritis and a broken elbow, all separate occasions. I find it a miracle how little time I had off, this all happened since October 2023 and now it's July 2024. They believe 'it's showing red flags' which I could understand, even though it was my coworkers telling me to go home when I was ill and that SAME boss telling me I couldn't go into work with my broken elbow.

I've had a rough few years and this job gave me exactly what I wanted, it gave me an open space with incredible coworkers, minimum wage for an apprenticeship (6.40 ph/ $8.13 ph for my Yankee bros), and a reason to keep going on, my boss didn't care when I said that. I'm super frustrated and confused, my mother has been spam calling my boss for the past hour and a half now and he's dodging the answer button like it has Ebola.

Batdadv2 15 hr. ago edited 14 hr. ago Head of HR/Recruitment in UK here, they were required to make you aware that your Bradford score may put you onto a process, potentially ending in dismissal. Although the reason they dismissed you is admissable, and there are few employment protections for employees under 2 years, they dismissed you without warning (if you're saying they didn't run through your Bradford score with you during your return to works).

If you want to make them squirm, ask them for a SAR (subject access request) which does cost a fee, but they're required by law to provide all information they have pertaining to you- take that to an employment lawyer to see if you have a case, which you may do. In place of litigation, they may seek to settle at tribunal. It sounds like because you're young, they thought they could just get rid of you without due process. But if they did indeed go through your Bradford scores during your RTW's o

    • tidymaze 17 hr. ago Your mom needs to stop calling. It's not a good look. You should contact the Labor Board or whatever it might be called where you live if you truly think it was an unfair dismissal. And FYI, 12 days due to illness/injury in 9 months can be considered a lot. Especially if you also took other time off.

tuxxcat9 17 hr. ago You should ask your mom to help you talk to an employment lawyer asap. It may have been a wrongful termination due to your medical condition. It will be easier if there is paper evidence of them giving you the days off.

    • mentions-band · 13 hr. ago Ugh. "THE boss" line got me. My band member once got fired because he clocked in 2 minutes late. The ride share program that the company set up had chosen an unreliable driver and caused them all to be late. He was already in trouble for working too many hours, so this put him over the edge. He got the whole,

you've been flagged and there's nothing I can do about it. He (the boss) was the manager of the whole place and just let a computer fire a guy who'd bent over backwards for that place for years and years. Got in trouble for being asked to take more shifts, then fired for showing up late for using their own "we are green now because we make people car pool" program.

    • 100yearsLurkerRick 12 hr. ago I was once told by an lead position person at an office job that a work relationship could be perfect for 5 years and one little mistake was enough to ruin it and have you restart from square one. He probably told me thinking it would motivate me to be perfect and not make mistakes, go above and bwyond, etc, but instead I asked why anyone would want to work

harder or not use what you're entitled to if a single mistakes destroys everything anyway? Why bother with the effort? I was there for about 2 years and only lasted another 6ish months before I gave notice. He asked where I was going and said no where, I just cant be here any longer.
