'She didn't tell me she was allergic': Person Gets a Cat Even Though Their Roommate Is Allergic, Except the Roommate Agreed Beforehand, and Now, They Don’t Know What to Do

Our roommates and our cats… don't always get along. That's fact. There's not much we can do about it. Our cats chose us, not our roommates, and so our roommates will be treated accordingly by our cats. Sometimes, that leads to hissterical situations. Like when a man got revenge on his roommate by becoming his cat's favorite person, or like when a man decided to 'steal' his roommate's cat for nightly cuddles, or like that roommate that gives the cat a middle-part when he's bored for no clear reason.

Sometimes, it's funny. Other times… it's not. Like today, when a drama between roommates occurred because one of them is allergic to cats. Now, that's fair. The problem is that the allergic roommate knew, before becoming the roommate, that a cat would be joining the household soon, and they agreed to it and never told the cat owner that they're allergic. And now, the cat is here, and the allergic roommate is here, and what the heck do you do from there?

Look… we support being considerate of your roommates when it comes to pets. If your roommate is allergic, then it probably makes sense not to adopt until you, or they, move out. But that's not the case here. This person, regardless of everything else, was not your roommate, and you owe them nothing.

You did the right thing - going and telling this potential roommate that you plan on adopting a cat. The current problem is entirely their fault for not being truthful with you. And we get it, the house market is not easy right now. Finding apartments is hard. But they chose it, knowing what will happen, so the allergy pills are on them.
