Let this story serve as yet another reminder that your boss is not looking out for you. As long as your manager is employed at the company, their number one priority has been and will always be whatever is in the best interest of the company, not you.
In this instance, we have an overworked employee who set up a meeting with their boss to confess their burnout. Their boss insisted that the employee was needed at the company, and so the two of them came up with a mutually beneficial agreement. They decided to give it three weeks and see if there is any meaningful change to workload and workflow. Then, the employee can either move laterally within the company or step down to pursue further opportunities.
Just when the employee thought they had their boss on their side, they discovered a job positing for their own position immediately following the meeting. So much for that confidence!
