"Obey the schedule." Managers love to preach it's importance… letting you know any time you query it that it must be followed to the letter, never questioned, and that it's contents remain unchanged—there is no wiggle room when it comes to what is already written.
Of course, that same attitude never applies when it comes to your schedule; that is the schedule of your availability. Any time there is a lack of coverage, instead of looking to hire someone to cover that weak point, managers will instead plug anyone—and I mean anyone—into that shift, whether or not they have ever worked that shift before or even have availability during that time, hoping that the chosen worker will just accept the change without saying anything, thus solving the manager's problem without them having had to ever have lifted a finger.
See, some managers, particularly those of the "upper" variety have this notion that the businesses needs are more important than whatever workers might have going on outside of the work. To those same managers, their work is more important than their lives and they'd certainly rather be spending time at work than spending time with their family. So, when it comes to their staff they can't comprehend why they don't feel the same way.
This worker found themselves repeatedly scheduled when their availability explicitly listed otherwise prompting this exasperated and bewildered post on this online workplace community.
