What's the point of having vacation days if you're not allowed to use them?

Why is it so hard for upper management to understand that PTO is meant to be used? Like… Huh? That was part of the deal, buddy. Your employee does work for you and you let them enjoy their lives every once in a while. It's the bare minimum. Especially if you are working for minimum wage. The paid vacation days are the only thing holding you together in jobs like that.
So when this minimum wage worker still got scheduled during her vacation she basically scoffed in management's face. She had gotten her vacation approved a month prior, way more time than needed. Usually, two weeks prior is all that is needed for putting in PTO. But she did a month. They approved it and said everything would be good and she would have those days off. But low and behold, when it came time for her vacation, she was on the schedule. She let them know that that's obviously a mistake and she is out of the country. She got many missed calls after that, but sorry, not sorry: airplane mode*!
