Integrating with your in-laws can be one of the more difficult parts of married life, and this is especially true if you come from different countries or cultures. When you literally speak a different language, some things can get lost in translation—and if you're particularly unlucky, that can happen on purpose. You may find yourself being insulted to your face.
This is exactly the situation that one Canadian woman was dealing with when it came to her husband's German family. Although she was a lifelong German speaker, she didn't let them know that she spoke the language and they chose to speak badly of her when she spent time with them. After one mean remark too far, she snapped and let them know what she thought about them in their mother tongue. They didn't take it well, but it's fair to say that Reddit understood why she had done this.
