Hello, I'm a listener and I love the podcast, excuse my english please because it is not my first language So me (22F) and my fiance been together for 3 years and he proposed lately so we decided to throw an engagement party beacuse our families never met before. My sister (19F) hates my fiance for no reason, she said that he is poor even tho he makes more money than me and he supports me while finishing his degree, she is bothered by the fact that he is 24 and doesn't have a car and a big house

married before I do because we won't be able to afford a wedding and how she will marry a rich husband and I will regret being with my fiance. A month before my engagement she broke up with her bf who is not rich, but he spends his dads money When I announced the engagement and asked my mom and sis to help me with planning and stuff I said that I will be wearing a purple dress since I love the color my sister said since i am not wearing white she will and I made it clear that it would not be oka

just trying to trigger me since she enjoyed doing it all the time At the engagement party I was so busy with the guests and stuff and suddenly I see her She is wearing a white wedding dresss I swear to god I was shocked for a second I thought I am going to faint.. it hurts honestly.. she is not a friend or a cousin, she is my sister and she is wearing a wedding dress to my engagement party and keep in mind that even my dress was pretty modest and simple. I lost it but I tried my best to

keep it together and not cause a scene I took her upstairs and told her that she needs to loose the dress or she can stay in her room because I don't wanna see her dress so I can enjoy my evening She said that she will keep it because she has nothing else to wear so I left her is the room and locked her in and went downstairs to attend my party. She is always mean to me and I am always doing my best to not hurt her feelings but I don't have no more

energy for her So after the party I told my mom what happened and when we opened the dor she was crying and she tore her dress up and as always played victim and everyone in our family thinks that I am being cruek to her.. they even told that she went through a break up lately so I should have been more considerate and empathetic and it was not a wedding dress but just a simple one which happenes to be white, now I feel guilty.. so am I the ?? I will be leaving pics for my dress and my sister's

Realistic_Lie_3767 • 15h Well the image itself says a wedding dress so what are they questioning that is a proof by itself. Also, your sister sounds like a jealous kid since you are engaged before she is. I am not sure of the family dynamics here but this shows a lot that she has not been told no before or put in her place. Also, if she is going through a breakup this doesn't excuse ruining somebody else's mood (she could have used. your party as a way to become better and get over her pain not

StarlightM4 15h • Well, maybe you should have got your parents involved first, to talk some sense into her, but I can understand that in the heat of the moment and frustration why you did it, I would have done the same. She sounds like a whiny, entitled brat. Just say she is not invited to the wedding. Full stop. And anyone who objects, their invite is rescinded too. She attempted to sabotage your engagement and ignored your boundaries. ... ← Reply 35

Intelligent_Dish0456 • 14h Do you think parents that raised polar opposite children care? They are most likely the reason her younger sister acts like this in the first place. Op is probably kind in spite of how ridiculous her family is to people. ... 21

uhhh206 10h I agree; it's giving "golden child and scapegoat". I was the latter as the elder child in two daughter household like OP, and my relationship with my sister was got to be in our late teens as a result. until we ← Ĵ 5 3

Secret Palpitation_8 • 17h Are you TAH? Not really. I mean no that was definitely not nice to lock anyone anywhere, but I kind of get it with sisters. Do you feel like you have a hard time setting boundaries with her? If I were you I would let her know that if shes not gonna be totally supportive of your wedding (which means being respectful, and being nice to your fiancé) then shes uninvited. So nta..but maybe still say sorry? Idk Reply 31 B

Grand-Instruction-65 18h Hmmm this is tough. Your sister definitely overstepped by wearing that dress and she just seems like a not so kind/supportive person. I don't think I would've locked her in a room but I would've probably gone either low contact or no contact with her for multiple reasons Reply Ŵ 34 ↓

IJustWorkHere000c • 12h Nah. Locking her in a room for several hours while she self destructed is way more hilarious. 11

BlueButterflytatoo • 11h It's not just that she is not so kind/supportive. It's that she's actively vindictive and cruel. Locking her in a room wasn't going to make her change, or make op look like the nice one. But I can also understand that after a lifetime of being tormented, locking the problem away for a couple hours might not have been the most extreme choice. Not the best, but could have been so much worse. 73

Dull-Geologist-8204 • 13h Not me, I would have had so much fun with my sister if she had done this. Sometimes the best solution to a problem is to sit back and let someone make a fool of themselves. 11

Sufy23. 14h Kind of NTA, kind of ESH. You can't just be locking people away, even if they're being immature or stubborn. Next time just wear white with purple accents if you don't want to leave space for her to try and upstage you I guess. Reply Ŵ7 ♡ 73

sooya017 13h NTA. Omg, your sister is a snake how could she do this to you and then play the victim card !! And the family members ATAH so because she went through a breakup lately she can ruin your special day? Some people are just too much! ← Reply Ŵ 7 ♡ 73

Shot-Ad7227 • 12h You are at least partly the AH for locking anyone anywhere against their will. But your sis is 100% the bigger You can apologize and take responsibility for how you reacted, but it in now way excuses her actions that led to it. She owes you a much bigger apology. ← Reply 4 3

Shelly_895 16h I mean, your sister is an , you're a criminal. That's false imprisonment. It would've been one thing if you had kicked her out of the party. But locking her in a room, which I assume was for several hours, is not okay. Why didn't you tell your mom as it was happening? ← Reply 9 ↓

Specialist_Victory_5 • 8h I don't know what the laws are where you are, in some places it's illegal to lock someone up. but In the USA the bride usually gets a close friend to "accidentally "spill wine on a guest who shows up in white. ... Reply Ŵ 2 ♡
