The reality of the hiring process meeting expectations takes place on both sides. The entire process has such a ridiculously excessive performative requirement that there's no way either party can live up to all of the gassing up they've been doing.
There is sure to be more time spent completing monotonous tasks than the interviewer implied, with also less room for growth and creative freedom than you might have been led to believe you would receive. Similarly, your employer might come to find that you exaggerated your skills and experience, as it turns out you don't work all that well under pressure, especially when that pressure is being screamed at by clients who were neglected by your predecessor and not simply juggling multiple important tasks as you'd envisioned.
The delusions you'd painted for one another will fade like mist onto a bleaker canvas of reality, but even still, you might hope that this reality at least reflects the role that you were promised… Not so for this mechanical engineer, who began to realize that they had actually been hired as a janitor when the role had been described as being far closer to their field. The reality of the situation was somewhat bewildering as they had even been made to prove their competency in the tasks that they would need to perform in order to maintain the equipment they had been led to believe they would be maintaining. Frustrated and facing the reality that was their vindictive "nepo baby" new boss, they quit, but not without sharing their story on this popular online community, posing the question to commenters: "What's your fastest I quit story?"
