I wish we had more insight into what people actually looked like during the Medieval era. I love the medieval films of Roger Cormac as much as anybody ( (I wish I could live in the set of The Masque of the Red Death ), but unfortunately, 1960s movies probably do not represent the Dark Ages uber accurately. We don't have as much of a record of what people in the Middle Ages dressed in or valued in appearances when compared with the Renaissance or other later eras. The art is less realistic, so we have to use our imaginations a bit. Maybe in the Middle Ages, babies actually were that ugly! Maybe knights were as puny and skinny as the armor at museums suggests! Maybe everybody walked around with a yellow pallor on their faces that made them look like they were on the verge of death at all times! We can't know for certain what medieval citizens looked like, but we can certainly pontificate upon their long-gone existence with some knight-in-shining-armor memes.
