Welcome internet surfin' gals. Genetics are a tricky and funny thing. I know a woman who was completely convinced that she was adopted because she looked nothing like her parents or siblings. Later in life, she demanded that everyone in her nuclear family do a DNA test, and lo and behold, she was not adopted. Her siblings were her biological siblings, and her parents were her biological parents. When she finally had children, her oldest turned out to be the spitting image of her father, who she did not resemble at all. Her second was thankfully a small copy of her, so she was finally able to have the experience of resembling a close family member.
In our story today, a man and his nephew look extremely similar. Because the kid's dad is an absent deadbeat, our protagonist's sister is relieved that her son got mostly her genes - genes she shares with her brother - and our protagonist has become a father figure in the boy's life.
