So yeah, here goes... This all happened last weekend, and honestly, I'm still not sure if I'm processing it right or if I'm a total AH for how I handled it.

I've (34F) been with my husband (36M) for like seven years. We've had our ups and downs, like any couple, but I thought we were solid. So, we threw a BBQ at our house to celebrate his recent promotion. It was supposed to be a fun day with close friends and family. And one of the guests was my best friend "Lisa." She's been like a sister to me since college.

A few months ago, things started feeling off with my husband. Nothing super obvious, just little things. He was more distant, more guarded with his phone. At first, I thought I was just being paranoid, but something just didn't sit right. Last week, I couldn't ignore it anymore. I found some texts between him

and Lisa. It was stuff that could be brushed off as friendly, but it had a weirdly...intimate vibe. It made me feel sick.

I tried to ignore it, but that gut feeling just got worse. So I dug a bit deeper, and, well, I found exactly what I'd feared. There was no denying it they were having an affair. I don't even remember what I felt in that moment; I think I was numb.

Instead of confronting him right away, I kept my cool. I wanted to be smart about it. I even went to a lawyer to see what my options were. I knew if I tried to talk to him alone, he'd probably just lie or gaslight me. So I decided that if I was gonna end things, I'd do it in a way he'd never forget.

So, the BBQ day comes around. I'm acting normal, playing hostess, smiling, laughing, all while watching them laughing together and feeling my heart shatter. Right after everyone had their food and were settled in, I stood up and said I had an "announcement."

I don't even know how I kept a straight face, but I looked right at my husband and Lisa and told everyone about their affair. The looks on their faces-total shock. My husband tried to say something, but I just handed him the divorce papers right then and there in front of everyone and walked away.

After that, people have been split in their reactions. My parents told me I was too dramatic, that I should've done it privately, but a lot of my friends have said they totally get why I did it. I just wanted him to feel a tiny bit of the betrayal I felt.

AITA for exposing them in front of everyone instead of just ending it privately? Should I have handled it differently, or was I right to stand up for myself in the moment?

Realistic-Airp... • 28m ago • It saved you a lot of effort and problems "explaining" plus your parents trying to get you to forgive or something. NTA.

ProfitProphet... • 28m ago • Your partner is the person who should trust the most and they betrayed you. Friends come and go. You're the victim in this situation and you handled things your way. No reason to doubt yourself now.
