Okay, buckle up, everyone. I (29M) have a beautiful cat named Whiskers. He's been my partner in crime for over 8 years, and I love him more than anything in the world. Recently, my sister (25F) moved in with me temporarily while she looked for a new job and apartment because of a rough breakup. No biggie, right? Family helps family.

Here's the problem: my sister has decided that she is a "cat whisperer" and has taken it upon herself to start feeding Whiskers vegan cat food because she thinks "it's better for his health and the planet."

First of all, Whiskers is a straight-up carnivore; we all know cats need meat! I've told her repeatedly that it's not healthy for him, and he literally only wants to eat the chicken-flavored treats I buy him. But she just smirks and tells me I'm "being close- minded."

It got to the point where I caught her sneaking vegan cat food into his bowl while I was in the next room. So, in a fit of rage, I lost it. I told her she had two options: stop this insanity or get out. She chose option two, and now she's saying I'm heartless for kicking her out over "a cat's diet."

I'm FURIOUS that she thinks she knows better than me when it comes to my cat's health. I mean, she's literally willing to risk his well-being to push her absurd lifestyle on him! AITA for choosing my cat over my sister?

JuliaX1984 • 13d ago Was she throwing his real food out or something?

    • Critical-Off-Garlic OP 13d ago • No, she mixed vegan food into his regular food to gradually transition him to a completely vegan diet.

    • Critical-Off-Garlic OP 13d ago • Just to clarify, I love my sister and have supported her during her tough times, but this isn't just about a cat! It's like she's trying to impose her crazy beliefs on me! Am I really the villain here?

Critical-Off-Garlic OP 13d ago • . Thanks! That will do. She keeps telling everyone that I kicked her out.

    • Ratchet_gurl24 13d ago But you didn't kick her out over a 'cats diet'. She left voluntarily. She repeatedly disrespected your wishes regarding your cat, and accused you of being closed minded. You gave her 2 options. 1# respect your wishes, or 2# get out. She chose the latter, rather than admit to her wrongdoing and stop crossing your boundaries.

lightlysaltedclams • 13d ago I with anyone's animal should be an immediate "leave my house". You're just protecting your cat.

abominablesnowlady • 13d ago Ordinarily I am staunchly on the side of people over animals. But in this case NTA! She is essentially poisoning this cat. This has resulted in cats dying!

She chose to leave, and is now playing the victim. There is no way you are the A H in this situation. And good on you for making sure Whiskers has the best care/life.

Bardic Nemesis • 13d ago NTA. You're letting her crash there, not planning her ascension as queen of your domain. And, she's objectively wrong to the point of harming your cat.
