Wedding financing is a hot topic in the wedding planning community. If you're not familiar, you should know: Weddings are extremely expensive. Many couples spend years of their lives engaged in order to be comfortable fronting the cost of their fairytale ceremony and reception. Some folks are lucky enough to have high-paying careers and/or well-off family members who can help them out, so budgeting isn't really an issue. If a couple wants a flashy wedding, though, they should be ready to fund it themselves. Imposing a "wedding tax" on their families is in poor taste and exhibits top-tier entitlement.
The woman in this story is not attending her sister's wedding because she is expected to give her upwards of one thousand dollars in addition to a wedding gift. These gifts typically run a guest over $200 already, and the woman expresses that her sister is being ridiculous. Her sister even tells her to "not bother" attending if she won't cough up the cash.
