Could 'Sinners' and 'One Battle After Another' Tie for Best Picture?

There have been only six ties in Oscars history. The most recent tie was in 2013 for Best Sound Editing, and there hasn't been another Oscar tie in the 21st century. The most famous tie in Oscars history is the tie for Best Actress in 1968, with Barbra Streisand winning for her first film role in Funny Girl, and Katharine Hepburn winning her 3rd Oscar for The Lion in Winter, only a year after winning her 2nd Oscar.

If you liked Sinner and One Battle After Another so much that you'd like to see both of them take home the gold, you're out of luck! The Oscars use Ranked Choice Voting for Best Picture, making it literally impossible for two films to earn the exact same number of votes. They also use Rank Choice Voting when selecting nominees, but not for non-Best Picture awards on the final ballot. So hypothetically, Timothee Chalamet and Michael B. Jordan could tie for Best Actor, but it's highly unlikely. The first and only time that happened was in 1932!

If you ask me, I think Sinners is going to take home Best Picture. Even if it misses out on Director (which might go to Paul Thomas Anderson after years of getting snubbed), Actor (which might go to Timmy, despite the public's perception that his ego is too big), and Supporting Actress (Which will probably go to Amy Madigan or Teyana Taylor), the public's reception to this powerful, original film will not go unnoticed. At least I hope it won't!
