My first realization that I needed to talk to a therapist was when I had a brain burp and actually was sitting there for a good 10 minutes trying to remember my grandfather's phone number to call because I used to have it memorized and I used to call him every day. I sat there trying to remember it for TEN MINUTES. It took me that long to remember that he's been long gone for over a decade… That's when I thought, “Well, that was really weird… I should probably talk to a professional about whatever tf that was.”
I went through five different therapists, that's right FIVE, before I found the right one for me. It was not a quick or easy journey to even start. But now I have been steadily talking with my therapist for six years and it just feels like a little mental check-in now rather than a “healing process.” Just some mental health maintenance—for me, that is therapy and memes!
