One childless employee came up with the borderline brilliant idea to lie about having a kid so they could leave their office whenever they wanted to.

A commeter was eager to point out that maintaining this lie is much more difficult than one would think. If you're only bringing up your kid when you are leaving work early, it could raise some red flags. Not to mention, your employer might question why you don't get insurance for your kid, especially if your partner is on your insurance.

Would you lie about something this big to get to leave early? Honestly, I wouldn't risk it. It's far more dangerous to lie about your family life in the workplace than to tell a one-off white lie about being sick when you really have a headache from partying all night on a Wednesday. If you're going to lie about having a kid, you need to be prepared for getting fired when the lie gets found out.
