If you were a 2000s kid, you know Disney Channel wasn’t just something we watched, it was something we lived.
Like lets be honest… how many times did you try to do the Disney Channel wand logo with your TV remote? Fully committed, arm in the air, drawing invisible sparkles like your life depended on it. Cause I know I did. And somehow, it never felt right, even though I couldn't see what I was doing I just knew it was off. Still, that didn't stop a girl from trying.
And the dreams we had? I was fully convinced I was going to grow up and live like Hannah Montana. Not even the fame part, I’m talking about the closet. Oh. my. god. The moving racks, the secret doors, the outfits for every possible occasion. We were speechless, and I just know so many fashion baddies were raised by Disney fashion. Which now that I´m grown I can see how that can be a bit of a controversial opinion. But who didn't want to have million layers outfit back then?
I think my delusion started when I watched High School Musical and saw Sharpay’s pink convertible. I literally told my mom that I wanted that to be my first car. Still waiting on that one, by the way.

And emotionally? We were going THROUGH it. Tell me about good plots with moving storylines, huh! The first time Miley took off her wig in front of her entire hometown? Life-changing. Traumatizing. Beautiful. Everyone promising to keep her secret so she wouldn’t stop being Hannah? I’m sorry, that was peak television. Nothing has hit the same since. And I don't think I have recovered since. I cant even tell my mom a secret without my whole family finding out.
And don’t even get me started on Camp Rock. I think empaths were born when Mitchie couldn't afford to go to Camp and then lied to all fo her friends about her mom being the cook. I wish someone would have recorded our faces when Demi started singing This Is Me with Joe Jonas?? I’m pretty sure that was the moment we all collectively lost it. Screaming, crying, performing it in our living rooms like we were about to go on tour. Bonus points if you forced your sibling or cousin to be Joe Jonas.

Speaking of performances, the Dis-Knee “dance style” had us in a chokehold.
You KNOW the one. Knees slightly bent, one arm basically glued to your mouth like a microphone, the other one doing something dramatic and slightly confusing. Suddenly you’re in your pajamas, giving the performance of your life in your living room like you’re on stage.
And the fashion?? CeCe and Rocky from Shake It Up had us thinking more layers = better outfit. Neon, patterns, sequins, high pink boots… nothing made sense and yet everything worked. And Sharpay’s pink locker?? Her entire wardrobe?? I discovered envy at a very young age and honestly I’ve never fully recovered. Sorry!

Also, Debby Ryan in 16 Wishes? That bag collection altered my brain chemistry. I didn’t even know what half of those bags were for, I just knew I needed them immediately.
And for anyone who thinks Emma Chamberlain invented casual vlogging… please. Teddy Duncan from Good Luck Charlie walked so everyone else could run. Those video diaries? Cinema. She invented being a thought-daughter. Like, imagine your older sister making a bunch of vlogs for you to watch when you're older. I actually would pass out of love.
Talking about delusion, at one point, I watched so much Wizards of Waverly Place that I genuinely thought I might have powers. (They did not. Devastating.) Like truly believed they were just… about to kick in. Like, were you truly a fan if you didn't gaslight your younger sisters into thinking you were Alex Russo?

But honestly, nothing compares to that era. The shows, the outfits, the music, the drama, we were all just kids in our living rooms, completely immersed, fully believing in every second of it.
And somehow… it still lives rent-free in our heads. So enjoy and indulge in this very lovely feeling of nostalgia and delusion provided by our best memes.
