'I got ding-dong ditched': Cat pawrent answers the door to find a box filled with five abandoned kittens, she steps up and raises them

Good meowrning, feline friends. We all know how kittens are made, right? Well, if you don't, we'll tell you: when one mommy kitty and one daddy kitty fall in love, they get meowrried, and then a few months later, a stork comes and drops off the kittens in a cardboard box close to where they live. Well, sometimes, the storks get lost, and they leave the kittens with some unsuspecting cat-lover (the storks are obviously employees of the cat distribution system) to take care if instead of mommy and daddy.

While cooking dinner one night, this unsuspecting cat-lover went to answer the door and found nothing except a take-out box. Surprised by how heavy it was, she opened the box to find five barely born kittens, some formula, and feeding bottles. Maybe it was a stork, maybe it was a hooman who couldn't take care of them, but they were her responsibility now, and she certainly stepped up.     Hello! So I was cooking dinner last night, when my doorbell rang unexpectedly. By the time I made it to the door, this Durango box was sitting outside. I opened the lid to find 5 kittens, 2 cans of CMR and feeding bottles- all brand new. I have no idea who would have done this, I'm thinking a neighbor that knows I have cats, or has seen mine in the window.

  • We don't even know how we would react if this happened to us. Happy? Yes. Concerned? Also yes. But what else can you do with little ones that need you to help them survive? You just keep problem-solving until you get to a place where you can breathe. That's exactly what she did, and she saved five tiny lives because of it.

    It's a huge responsibility and I wish they would have had a conversation with me. I am in a position to care for them, with a very flexible schedule and they have been eating about every 2.5/3 hours, along with getting them to go to the bathroom and cleaning up. I still have them in the cardboard box (it has breathing holes. all the way around), with a heat pad placed under it that's been on the

    whole time. I've never taken care of kittens this young before- their eyes aren't open, and a couple still have. umbilical cords (dried, probably getting ready to fall off). Any advice you can share would be greatly appreciated.

    FunshineCoco Update: Today I became an official foster mom by way of a local no-kill animal shelter which will help provide supplies and medical care to these babies as I nurture them until they can be vaccinated, spayed/neutered, microchipped and placed in their forever homes!     Update!

    5 1/2 weeks ago these babes were abandoned on my doorstep- today all 5 are over 600g and I can officially say they made it through the hardest part! They have so much energy now and love to come out of their playpen. to run around and play every few hours. Everyone is eating wet food plus kitten kibble (softened with water), except for Champ (the runt) who still gets bottle fed, but even he

    is catching up to his brother and sisters. This Saturday they will all be going in for their first round of vaccines and deworming. I hope that all goes well for them much fun at this stage and I can't wait They are so to see what they look like in a couple more weeks!

  • They are growing up into such awwwdorable little babies! If she doesn't keep them, we'll take one. We're sure they'll get adopted in no time. She's not the step-mom, but the mom who stepped up. Let's all give her a big round of appaws!
